Rare 1964 Modernist Sculptural Pitcher by Santucci Deruta - Handcrafted in Italy

Rare 1964 Modernist Sculptural Pitcher by Santucci Deruta - Handcrafted in Italy

$0.00 AUD

A rare and striking example of Mid-Century Modernist ceramics, this sculptural pitcher was handcrafted by the esteemed Santucci workshop in Deruta, Italy. Acquired in Sicily in 1964, the piece has remained in the care of its original owner for sixty years. It represents a sophisticated departure from traditional Italian pottery, leaning into the Modernist movement of the 1960s through its bold form and experimental texture.

The vessel serves as a masterclass in mid-century tactile art, featuring a heavy, bone white "relief" slip glaze, creating a tactile, organic surface that invites touch. Set against this textured field are hand-painted "Naif" polychrome floral/sun medallions in vibrant cobalt, ochre, and deep reds, a perfect synthesis of Italian heritage and 20th-century avant-garde design.

The base bears the authentic hand-painted markings "SANTUCCI DERUTA 352/E," confirming its studio origin and specific registered shape code. While originally part of a larger service, this standalone terracotta pitcher now serves as a premier sculptural statement for any modernist or eclectic interior. Sourced in Sicily, its sixty-year single-owner history ensures the colors remain as vivid as the day it was fired.

Artist/Studio: Santucci Deruta, Umbria, Italy.

Condition: Excellent vintage condition; the one-owner provenance ensures the integrity of the glaze and the preservation of its vibrant, hand-painted colors.

Originally part of a service set, this standalone pitcher now functions as a premier Modernist statement piece, offering a textured counterpoint to the clean lines of Danish or Australian mid-century modern timber furniture.
