Mid-century modern teak armchair with light blue upholstery against a plain wall

Mid-Century Modern Armchair by Burgess in Teak, c.1960s

$0.00 AUD

A striking example of Australian mid-century design, this armchair was produced by the renowned Melbourne-based manufacturer Burgess.

The chair's sophisticated design is defined by its dramatic, sculptural armrests. Crafted from solid teak, the arms feature an elegant upswept curve that creates a dynamic profile and a "floating" seat aesthetic, both hallmarks of high-end Scandinavian influence. This lighter timber is set in beautiful contrast against a darker, robust Australian blackwood frame, showcasing the exceptional material selection and joinery for which Burgess was known.

This piece has undergone a complete professional restoration. The two-tone timber frame has been meticulously refinished to enhance the rich, natural grain of both woods. It has been newly upholstered in a premium, powder-blue textured weave, perfectly complementing the warm timber hues and lending a contemporary feel to its classic form. The original maker's stamp is visible beneath the seat, confirming its provenance.

A highly sculptural and comfortable armchair, this restored piece is a fine example of Australian Modernism, ready for a discerning interior.
