Restored Mid-Century Modern Swedish Teak Extension Table by Skaraborgs (c. 1960s)

Restored Mid-Century Modern Swedish Teak Extension Table by Skaraborgs (c. 1960s)

$0.00 AUD

While "Danish Modern" often dominates the conversation, the furniture output from Sweden during the mid-20th century offers a distinct, often underappreciated narrative. This table is a prime example of that Swedish ethos: where the elegance of form meets an uncompromising dedication to joinery and function.

Manufactured by Skaraborgs Möbelindustri AB, this piece represents the golden era of production from Tibro, a small town in Sweden renowned historically as the country's furniture capital. Skaraborgs was celebrated for its ability to marry industrial precision with traditional woodcraft, resulting in pieces that were built to last generations, not just decades.

Design & Restoration:

This dining table has been professionally restored in-house by the Fox & Wedge team, stripping back decades of use to reveal the rich, golden-amber hues of the old-growth teak veneer.

The design is deceptively simple but highly architectural. The tabletop features book-matched teak grain that flows seamlessly across the surface. Unlike many extension tables that feel clunky when expanded, this system is engineered for ease; the two extension leaves slide effortlessly into place, transforming a modest 4-seater (140cm) into a grand banquet table (over 2.5 metres) capable of seating 8–10 guests comfortably.

The legs feature a subtle, squared-off taper — a hallmark of Swedish design that differentiates it from the round, turned legs typical of Danish pieces. This gives the table a grounded, confident stance while maintaining a light visual footprint.

While a quintessential piece of Mid-Century Modern design, this table specifically showcases the 'Swedish Modern' aesthetic — distinguished by a slightly more robust, engineered approach to joinery compared to its Danish counterparts, without sacrificing the clean, organic lines the era is famous for.

Condition:

Restored. This piece is in excellent vintage condition following a full restoration by Fox & Wedge. The surface has been refinished to enhance the natural chatoyance of the timber while offering durable protection for daily use. The mechanism operates smoothly, and the structural integrity is perfect. The original maker's foil label is preserved on the underside, verifying its provenance.

The Fox & Wedge Difference:

Unlike many "vintage condition" pieces on the market that are simply cleaned and oiled, this table has undergone a full professional restoration in our Torquay studio.

Full Refinish: The old, tired finish was chemically stripped and hand-sanded to remove decades of oxidisation and wear, revealing the true character of the Skaraborgs teak.

Premium Protection: We have finished this piece using Oli Natura, a specialised trade-only hardwax oil. Unlike standard polyurethane lacquers that sit on top of the wood like plastic, Oli Natura penetrates deep into the timber to nourish it from within.

Family Friendly: This premium finish provides a robust, water-resistant, and non-toxic surface that handles the rigours of modern family life while keeping the natural, tactile feel of the wood.

Longevity & Memoires: This table is not just "sold as is" — it is professionally restored for another 60 years of service. It is ready to become the heart of your home, serving as the backdrop for generations of shared meals, conversations, and memories.
