Set of Eight Restored Mid-Century Chiswell Dining Chairs in Teak
An increasingly rare matching set of eight dining chairs by Chiswell, a true icon of Australian design.
Legacy of Australian Design: Chiswell
Based in New South Wales, Chiswell was at the forefront of Australian furniture manufacturing throughout the 1960s and 70s. They were renowned for their exceptional build quality and their sophisticated ability to interpret the prevailing Danish modern aesthetics for an Australian audience.
This complete dining setting provides seating for eight, comprising six elegant side chairs and two highly desirable carver armchairs.
Form & Material:
Each chair is crafted from a solid teak frame, prized for its deep, warm grain and durability. The design is classic Chiswell: defined by clean lines, elegantly tapered legs, and a gracefully curved, supportive backrest.
Original Upholstery:
The chairs retain their original black vinyl upholstery. This is a significant feature for collectors and design purists. The vinyl is in excellent vintage condition, offering a timeless, graphic contrast to the warm timber and ensuring decades of durability.
The Carvers:
The two carver chairs, with their sculptural armrests, provide an added layer of comfort and stature, perfectly suited for the heads of the table.
Our Restoration Process
This set has been meticulously restored in the Fox & Wedge workshop. The solid teak frames have been restored to celebrate their natural lustre and history. All joints have been inspected and are secure, ensuring this set is stable and ready for another lifetime of use.
This is a rare opportunity to acquire a complete, restored set of this calibre. They are the perfect complement to a large teak or rosewood dining table, offering timeless style and verifiable design provenance.
