Designed by Laurens van Wieringen for Dutch furniture house De Vorm, the LJ1 Armchair combines sustainable material innovation with practical contemporary design. Its light grey PET Felt shell is paired with a minimal white steel frame, creating a refined silhouette suited to modern dining, office, and design-led interiors.

The moulded shell is made from recycled PET bottles, giving the chair its distinctive felted texture while providing useful acoustic dampening. Designed with durability and everyday comfort in mind, the LJ1 brings together sustainable manufacturing, ergonomic support, and understated Dutch design.

These ex-showroom pieces have never been sat in and remain in excellent, like-new condition. Available to view at the Fox & Wedge Torquay studio.

Sustainable Dutch Designer Armchair by De Vorm

The De Vorm LJ1 Armchair demonstrates how recycled materials can become an integral part of contemporary furniture design rather than simply an environmental addition.

Designed by Laurens van Wieringen, the chair uses De Vorm's PET Felt technology, where recycled PET bottles are pressed into a single moulded shell. This process creates a soft, tactile seating surface while reducing the need for multiple traditional upholstery components.

The PET Felt shell also provides acoustic dampening, making the LJ1 particularly well suited to open-plan dining areas, offices, meeting spaces, hospitality environments, and other interiors where sound management matters.

Its light grey shell and white steel frame give the chair a restrained Scandinavian-influenced appearance that integrates easily into contemporary interiors without losing its distinctive designer character.
