Josef Hospodka for Chřibská Art Glass Bowl in Rose and Amber, c. 1960
Description
Josef Hospodka designed this art glass bowl for Chřibská Glassworks in Czechoslovakia around 1960, in a swirl of rose and amber.
Chřibská, in northern Bohemia, was one of the glassworks that made Czechoslovak art glass internationally known in the 1950s and 60s, and Hospodka was one of its leading designers. This bowl shows the approach: a heavy, thick walled body worked into a free, sculptural shape, with layers of colour laid inside the glass so the rose and amber shift and blend as light moves through the bowl.
The bowl has a clear, heavy base that gives it weight, and the sides rise and twist into soft points. It suits a low table, a sideboard or a window sill, where the colour can catch light, and it works alone as an object or holding fruit.
Excellent vintage condition, with some minor signs of use.
Dimensions: 14 cm H x 26 cm diameter. Hand wash in warm water with a little mild soap and dry with a soft cloth.
