Rare Sculpted Blackwood Armchair by Decro, c.1960s – Restored
An exceptional example of Melbourne mid-century modern design, this sculpted armchair was produced by Decro Pty Ltd in North Coburg during the 1960s.
Often mistaken for the T.H. Brown 'Viscount', the Decro distinctive profile features a more complex, continuous boomerang arm curve and a floating backrest design that sits elegantly within the solid timber frame.
Expertly restored by Fox & Wedge Vintage, this piece has been finished to reveal the stunning depth and grain of the solid Australian Blackwood frame.
Restoration & Finish:
The solid Blackwood frame has been professionally restored using traditional Shellac. We selected this artisanal finish specifically to enhance the timber's natural depth, creating a rich, warm lustre that modern finishes simply cannot replicate.
Upholstery:
The chair features a premium fabric in 'Golden Ochre' (muted mustard) — a classic hue chosen to perfectly complement the warm timber tones. It has been internally rebuilt with new high-density foam and webbing, ensuring it offers modern comfort and longevity while retaining its vintage charm.
About the Maker:
Decro was a high-end Melbourne manufacturer known for heavy solid timber construction and geometric detailing. Their armchairs are becoming increasingly scarce and are highly sought after by collectors for their robust build and sculptural lines.
Dimensions:
H 82cm x W 66cm x D 75cm
Condition:
Restorer, Excellent condition. The Blackwood frame is free from deep scratches or water marks. Frame is structurally solid and sturdy. Professionally reupholstered with new fabric and foam.
