Planet Lighting Articulating Studio Floor Lamp, c. 1960

Roll it across a room on its own castors, set the arm where you want the light, and it stays there. No drifting, no retightening a stiff joint every few weeks; the spring tension does the job it was built to do sixty years ago.

Planet Lighting built this for studio use rather than a living room, which shows in the engineering. A cast iron base low enough not to tip under an extended arm, chrome-plated steel for the arm itself, and a conical shade that throws light down rather than out. It is the kind of lamp designed to be adjusted daily rather than once and forgotten.

Rewired to current standard, tested and tagged. The castors still run smoothly, and the arm was checked to make sure the spring tension still holds a position properly rather than sagging.
