Original Art Deco Bevelled Wall Mirror | Scalloped Cloud Edge

Original Art Deco Bevelled Wall Mirror | Scalloped Cloud Edge

$340.00 AUD

A genuine 1930s Art Deco wall mirror featuring a rare scalloped cloud edge and architectural bevelled detailing. Originally the centrepiece of a period cabinet, this mirror has been thoughtfully repurposed for wall display. This piece is a solid, original fragment of early modernism, presented on an Oak timber backing that has been carefully restored to highlight the natural wood grain.

The glass is of exceptional quality, remaining remarkably clear and bright despite minor foxing, a natural oxidation of the silvering that serves as an authentic record of its history. This clarity is a result of the high-grade plate glass used in premium 1930s furniture, which was cast thicker to ensure a distortion-free reflection.

To ensure the piece is ready for contemporary use, we have fitted new hanging attachments and secured the glass with the original solid brass mirror holders. The geometric frame and soft, rhythmic curves of the glass provide a striking focal point for a foyer or bedroom. The mirror measures 800mm high by 800mm wide, it offers a depth and character that only comes with true age.

The Art Deco movement prioritised symmetry and the machine age aesthetic. In mirrors of this period, scalloped edges were hand-ground to create soft, cloud-like light effects. The enduring brightness of this mirror is due to the purity of the glass batch used during manufacturing, while modern reproductions often lack this depth, an original high-quality plate mirror provides a brilliance that is immediately visible.
