Italian Ribbon Steel Lounge Chair, c1950, Set of Two

Description
These lounge chairs were made in Italy around 1950, built from heavy-gauge flat bar steel in a continuous, triangular profile.
The design belongs to a broader shift in Italian furniture through the 1950s, away from the heavier, ornamented forms of the prewar years and towards lighter, more industrial materials, chairs built from lines rather than mass. Here, that shows in the flat steel straps bent into a single running silhouette, changing shape depending on the angle from which it is viewed, closer in spirit to the steel framing of the period's architecture than to conventional furniture-making. Originally intended for a terrace or garden setting, the graphic quality of the frame reads just as well as an indoor statement piece.
Each chair has been restored and finished in a satin black powder coating.
Custom upholstery is available on request, either a slimline outdoor pad in Sunbrella canvas or an indoor pad in Cognac or Cuoio leather, quoted separately once you have chosen a material.
Dimensions: 49.5cm wide, 61cm deep, 62cm high. Sold as a set of two.
