Ross Parkinson Carved Soapstone Bear, c. 1980

Signed by the artist on the underside, this bear is hand carved from a single piece of soapstone by Canadian sculptor Ross Parkinson.

Made in Quebec, the piece draws on the forms of Inuit sculpture while keeping Parkinson's own restrained, minimalist hand. The bear's weight sits low and grounded, its surfaces polished smooth enough to show every grey and black variation in the stone. It is a genuinely tactile object, one that asks to be picked up rather than only looked at.

Excellent original condition, with only minor wear consistent with age.

Height 8 cm, width 13 cm, depth 5 cm. A fitting addition to a desk, bookshelf or small collection of studio art.
