Description
Miss Wong is one of Vladimir Tretchikoff's best-known portraits, a young Chinese woman rendered in his signature saturated palette, produced as a lithograph through the 1970s alongside his other widely reproduced portrait work.
Tretchikoff, a Russian-born, South African-based painter, became one of the most commercially successful artists of the twentieth century through prints like this one, work that art critics dismissed as kitsch at the time but which has since become genuinely collectible mid-century material in its own right. The reddish-brown palette and patterned background here are typical of his portrait series from the period.
This example has been set in a new, custom-built timber frame finished in a black Japan stain, with glass fitted for long-term protection. There is minor damage to the top edge of the vintage print itself, visible on close inspection.
Dimensions: lithograph 60 x 49.5cm, framed 63 x 53 x 1.5cm.
