Description

The spring mechanism came from a car headlamp patent before it ever touched a desk. George Carwardine designed it using the same constant tension principle he had patented for vehicle suspension in 1932, which is why the arm holds exactly where you leave it rather than drifting back down under its own weight.

Herbert Terry and Sons manufactured the 1227 out of Redditch, England, across a production run from 1938 to 1968, and this piece is a genuine period example from within that window rather than a later reissue. Finished in cream, the colour that shows up most often in original catalogues from the period.

Fitted with a new batten holder, professionally tested and tagged for use in Australia. Runs on a standard B22 bayonet bulb.
