1970s Jac Jacobsen "L-1" Architect's Task Lamp for Luxo, Norway
A true icon of Scandinavian design, this is the original Luxo L-1 architect lamp designed by Jac Jacobsen in 1937.
Jacobsen's design was a brilliant Norwegian modification of the English task lamp, resulting in a perfectly balanced and incredibly fluid articulating arm. This revolutionary spring-balanced mechanism, which became the global standard, allows the lamp to be positioned with effortless grace.
This vintage example, circa the 1970s, is presented in its original and desirable chocolate brown finish, with contrasting chrome springs and articulated joints. Beyond its function as a flawless task lamp, the L-1 is famous as the inspiration for the animated character from Pixar Animation Studios, cementing its place in design and popular culture.
This lamp is presented in very good vintage condition, with authentic character and minor wear consistent with its age. It has been professionally serviced for modern Australian use, fitted with a new switch and batten holder, and has been tested and tagged for safety.
