Description

This Italian ceramic table lamp was made by Bitossi Ceramiche and dated January 3, 1981, on the base, and imported into the US market by Nora Fenton.

Bitossi has been producing ceramics from its base in Montelupo Fiorentino since the 1920s, most widely known for the high-gloss Rimini Blu glazes developed under Aldo Londi's creative direction. By the early 1980s, the range had broadened into quieter, more architectural finishes, and this lamp is an example of that shift. It is finished in the Seta glaze, a soft celadon tone with deeply incised horizontal banding, a matte, stone-like surface that reads as considerably more restrained than the brighter Bitossi glazes most collectors know first.

The ceramic body is heavy, and the incised texture remains sharp, with no damage. The lamp has had a full electrical assessment and is tested and tagged to Australian standards. It shows very minor wear consistent with its age.

Dimensions are 37cm high by 29cm wide.

An example of Bitossi's export line from the final years before Italian ceramic production shifted toward mass manufacture. Available to view in our Torquay studio.
