Bitossi 'Spagnoli' Pattern Ceramic Table Lamp, c1970

This ceramic table lamp base was made by Bitossi in Italy, dated to around 1970, in the Spagnoli pattern, an impressed geometric design associated with Aldo Londi's work for the company through the 1960s and 70s. The piece is unsigned, so it cannot be attributed to Londi personally with certainty, though the pattern and glaze are consistent with his output for Bitossi during this period.

The vase form base carries the weight and presence typical of Bitossi's lamp bases, finished in a mustard and brown glaze over the incised pattern. It is paired with a new handwoven shade in natural fibre on a white metal frame, with a clear inner lining that lets the light spread through the weave rather than being contained by it, a straightforward complement to the ceramic's texture and colour.

The ceramic base is in excellent vintage condition, with no chips, cracks or visible wear, and the glaze retains its original colour and gloss. The lamp is tested and tagged for use in Australia, fitted with a B22 lampholder, and comes with an Edison squirrel cage filament bulb, so it is ready to use.

Overall height is 53.5cm. Shade diameter is 40cm, shade height 25.5cm.
