Set of Six Wright and Sons Dining Chairs in Blackwood, c. 1970
Description
Wright & Sons operated as a boutique furniture maker out of Moorabbin, Melbourne, producing on a smaller scale than volume manufacturers like Parker or Fler. Less of their output survives as a result, which makes finding a complete matching set of six dining chairs, in the original 4 and 2 configuration of four side chairs and two carver armchairs, a genuinely uncommon find.
The frames are sculpted from solid Australian blackwood, its deep, textured grain set against toffee-toned upholstery. A floating seat profile and padded inset backrests give the set a lighter, more sculptural silhouette than the boxier dining chairs typical of the period.
Excellent condition, with only minor wear consistent with age. The blackwood frames have been gently restored to bring out the natural grain, and the upholstery is in pristine condition.
Backrest height 82.5 cm, seat height 46 cm, chair width 56 cm, chair depth 51 cm, carver arm height 67 cm.
