Chatley Draw Leaf Extension Dining Table, c. 1960
Description
Chatley Productions of Preston, Victoria, made this draw leaf extension dining table around 1960, finished in a teak look laminate edged in solid teak banding.
The laminate is a practical choice: it has kept the top free of the water rings and fading that are common on vintage veneer tables, so the surface looks as fresh as the day it was made. The solid teak banding gives the edge a warm, natural finish, and the table sits on a solid timber frame with four tapered cigar legs that keep the long top looking light.
Two draw leaves store at each end and pull out to extend the table to 215 cm, so it can stay compact for everyday meals and open out to seat a full table of guests. The extension mechanism is smooth.
Restored, in very good vintage condition. The surface is clean, with no significant marks or fading, and there are minor age appropriate marks to the legs.
Dimensions: 135 cm L x 92 cm D x 76 cm H, extended length 215 cm. A matching Chatley sideboard is available separately.
