Chatley Three Drawer Sideboard with Sliding Doors in Teak Laminate, c. 1960
Description
Chatley Productions of Preston, Victoria, made this sideboard around 1960, finished in a teak look laminate edged in solid teak banding, with sculptural recessed pulls and tapered, splayed cigar legs in solid timber.
Three sliding doors open to a large storage area with removable shelves, above three drawers along the top, one of them lined in felt. The sideboard carries the original maker's stamp. Sliding doors keep the front flat and clean, so nothing swings out into the room, and the recessed pulls leave the long, low line unbroken.
The laminate is a practical finish that resists the marks and fading common on vintage veneer, and the teak banding gives each edge a natural finish.
Restored, in excellent vintage condition. The surface is clean with no significant marks, chips or fading, and the drawers and doors operate smoothly.
Dimensions: 182 cm W x 45 cm D x 80 cm H. At this width it suits a dining room wall or a long lounge wall, and the top has room for a lamp, a mirror or a row of books. A matching Chatley extension dining table is available separately.
