Description
Danish furniture makers of the 1960s found a lasting answer to the coffee table ring: a solid teak frame around a top of glazed ceramic tile. This one carries small square tiles in grey, white and charcoal, flecked with soft pink and laid in straight rows.
The design works on two scales. From across the room the top reads as one even, fine texture, and up close each tile shows its own glaze. The teak frame is kept simple, and a slatted shelf between the four tapered legs keeps the table light in profile. At 161 cm long, it is a generous size for a tile top table, with room along its length for books, plates and a lamp.
Tile tops of this age often turn up cracked or patched. This one has its original tiles intact. We regrouted the top and sealed it in our Torquay studio, so the joints are clean and resist spills, and restored the teak frame. Condition is excellent, restored.
Dimensions: 161 cm long, 61 cm wide and 53.5 cm high.
