Mid-century modern wooden sewing table with drawer and fabric basket against white wall

Mid-Century Norwegian Teak & Bamboo Side Table by Karl Edvard Korseth for Rybo

$0.00 AUD

Our hearts beat for pieces with a story, and this exceptional Norwegian side table, designed by the celebrated Karl Edvard Korseth, is pure poetry.

Originally conceived in the late 1950s as a traditional sewing box, it was an instant hit, blending functional, compact design with the organic warmth that defined the Scandinavian modern era.

Korseth, one of Norway's most prolific mid-century designers, created an entire, beloved series of these work boxes for the manufacturer Rybo. This particular example is, in our opinion, the most beautiful expression of the form. While other versions featured leather or simple wicker, this piece boasts a stunning, tactile woven bamboo tambour basket. It glides open to reveal a generous storage space, perfectly embodying the connection to organic materials that we cherish.

The frame is crafted from rich, solid teak, with elegant, tapered X-frame legs that give it a feeling of lightness. Above the tambour basket sits a slim, tidy drawer for smaller essentials. We've meticulously and lovingly restored this piece, celebrating its history and soulmwhile ensuring it's ready for the next 60 years.

While it honours its heritage as a craft table, its function today is beautifully versatile. It’s the perfect companion to your favourite lounge chair, ready to hold a cup of tea and a good book. It’s an elegant station for your journal, a tidy home for remotes and chargers, or a soulful accent piece that brings timeless, clean lines to any space.
