Description
Herbert Terry and Sons of Redditch made this Anglepoise around the 1960s, and it carries the maker's marking at the foot of the arm. The lamp descends from George Carwardine's 1932 counterbalanced design, and its three springs and two step base match the form of the 1227, the domestic Anglepoise model.
Three springs at the base of the arm hold the lamp in balance, so the shade stays wherever it is placed without a locking knob. The stepped square cast base keeps it steady on a desk, and the aluminium lined shade throws a focused pool of light onto the work below.
Condition: very good vintage condition. The teal paint shows its age, with chips on the shade and arms and red undercoat showing through on the base. Tested and tagged, ready for use in Australia.
Dimensions: approximately 92 cm high at full extension, with a base of 15 x 15 cm.
