Mauro Pasquinelli for Pallavisini 'Maria' Dining Suite in European Oak, c. 1970
Description
Mauro Pasquinelli designed more than 50 chairs for Italian makers, and the Maria, produced by Pallavisini in the 1970s, is one of them.
This suite pairs four Maria chairs with a matching extension table, all in European oak. It has been comprehensively restored and is sold as one complete set.
The chairs have square section oak legs and a backrest that curves just enough to suggest comfort without softening the line. The seats are upholstered in espresso leather, new as part of the restoration, and the dark tone sets off the warm oak.
The table top is finished in book matched oak veneer, the grain mirrored symmetrically across the surface. The table extends with a leaf, giving room to add guests when needed and staying compact for everyday meals.
Restored and in excellent condition. Structural work has been completed, and precision veneer repairs have been carried out on the table top.
Pasquinelli was born in Scandicci, near Florence, and trained at the Florence Art Institute, graduating in 1951. He became a staple name in the Triangle of the Chair, the area of north eastern Italy near Udine that produced much of the world's wooden seating.
Espresso leather and warm oak suit a room with plain walls, a wool rug and a low sideboard, and the set sits comfortably beside Australian mid century teak. Oak needs little attention: wipe the table with a lightly damp cloth, use placemats under hot dishes, and condition the leather once or twice a year.
Closed, the table suits the four chairs. Extended, it has room for more places, so further chairs can be added for a larger gathering.
Sold as a complete set of four chairs and one extension table.
