Description

Original Batuan school painting from Bali, signed I Md Merta.

Acrylic on canvas. Custom floating timber frame, Black Japan finish.

A river runs through the centre of the painting, with women bathing and gathering water along its banks, and it pulls your eye up through dense jungle greens to a temple at the top; the whole village at work and worship in a single composition.

Batuan paintings fill every part of the canvas, leaving nowhere for the eye to rest, so there is always something new to notice, even after they have hung on a wall for years.
