Restored 'Nore' Coffee Table in Solid Victorian Ash by Norman Archibald | c.1970s
A monumental piece of Australian design history. The 'Nore' series by Norman Archibald is a true Australian classic, celebrated for its honest construction and robust, architectural silhouette. Its design significance is well-documented, having been exhibited at the prestigious 1980 Cologne International Furniture Fair and displayed at the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV).
Handcrafted in Melbourne from solid Victorian Alpine Ash, this magnificent coffee table showcases Archibald's signature aesthetic: oversized timber beams, exposed construction, and a grounded, primitive modern form. It is a piece that commands a room while remaining warm and approachable.
Restoration & Finish
This piece has been professionally restored by Fox & Wedge. We have treated the timber with premium Osmo Hardwax Oil, a finish chosen specifically to honour the natural qualities of the Alpine Ash. Unlike synthetic varnishes, Osmo penetrates the wood, protecting it from within while maintaining the timber's open-grain texture. The result is a rich, satin-matte finish that highlights the subtle beauty of the natural grain and is incredibly durable for daily use.
Condition
Restored / Excellent. The timber has been refinished to a high standard, removing historical wear while preserving the integrity of the original design. Structurally solid and ready for immediate use.
