Description
Oli Natura Wood Care Wax is a liquid wax for refreshing timber finished with hardwax oil. It is what we use on our own restored furniture to bring a worn surface back without sanding it. It is made by Oli Lacke in Lichtenau, Germany, from plant oils and waxes including soy oil and carnauba wax.
How far it goes
A 250 ml tin covers around 12 to 25 square metres. A dining table top is around two square metres, so a single tin refreshes it six to twelve times. For a timber floor, message us about a 1 litre tin.
Why use it
A hardwax oil finish sits in the grain rather than on top of it, which is why it looks and feels like timber. Over years of use it thins on the places touched most: the front edge of a dining table, the arms of a chair, the top of a sideboard where keys and cups land. Those areas start to look dry and patchy, and water marks them more easily.
The care wax feeds those areas and leaves a thin protective layer that dries to a silky matt sheen, close to the original finish. It also softens the look of light scratches and scuffs. Because the finish can be maintained in spots, you can treat only the worn area rather than the whole piece.
What it is for
Interior timber finished with Oli Natura Hardwax Oil or a similar hardwax oil: furniture, tabletops, benchtops, stairs and floors. Test a small hidden area first on timber finished with any other product.
How to use it
- Clean the surface with Oli Natura Wood Soap and let it dry completely.
- Shake the tin well.
- Put a small amount on a white polishing pad or lint-free cotton cloth and work it into the timber along the grain. A thin coat is all it needs.
- Leave it for no more than 10 minutes, then buff off any excess with a clean, dry cotton cloth.
- Leave the piece for at least 12 hours, ideally overnight, before using it, and avoid wiping it with a damp cloth for the next few days.
Apply at room temperature, ideally around 20 degrees.
How often
For a dining table in daily use, once or twice a year. For a sideboard or bedside table, far less often. The simplest guide is a drop of water: when it stops beading and starts to darken the timber, it is time.
Safety
Cloths and pads soaked in wax or oil can catch fire on their own as they dry. Rinse them straight after use, lay them flat outdoors to dry fully, or keep them in a sealed container of water before throwing them out.
Why we use Oli Natura
We choose trade quality finishes for our restorations, even when they cost more and take longer to apply, because we work with them every day in the studio and the furniture we restore goes into homes with children and pets. Oli Natura's oils and waxes are VOC free and based on plant oils and waxes such as soy oil and carnauba wax. Oli Natura Hardwax Oil, which most of our restorations are finished in, is also free of aromatics, formaldehyde, cobalt, biocides and preservatives, and once cured it is tested to EN 71-3, the European safety standard for children's toys. Because the finish sits in the grain rather than forming a film on top, a worn or marked area can be repaired on its own, without stripping the whole piece.
