Original Katsushika Hokusai Woodblock: "The Flower Basket" (19th Century) – Conservation Framed
A curated acquisition by Fox & Wedge.
This is a verified original woodblock print by the legendary Japanese master Katsushika Hokusai (1760–1849), the artist behind The Great Wave.
Taken from the celebrated Hokusai Manga — his famous series of sketchbooks that influenced the Impressionist movement in Europe — this diptych features a masterful study of a woven hanakago (flower basket). The composition overflows with detailed peonies, hydrangeas, and irises, rendered with Hokusai’s signature energetic line work and distinct hatching techniques.
Unlike modern reproductions, this piece features the tactile, warm texture of original 19th-century washi paper, carrying the history of the Edo period.
