Description
This is an exhibition poster for 20th Century Masters from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, which toured the Australian National Gallery and Queensland Art Gallery in 1986, featuring Picasso's Woman in White (1923). At 54cm wide by 88cm high, it is a substantial piece, sized to hold its own on a wall rather than sit as a small accent.
The exhibition brought 38 paintings, 30 drawings and 3 sculptures from the Met's collection to Australia, spanning 1905 to 1952, with work by de Kooning, O'Keeffe, Pollock, Bonnard, Klee, Matisse and Modigliani alongside Picasso. Woman in White is one of Picasso's Neoclassical portraits, painted after a Cap d'Antibes summer with Gerald and Sara Murphy, and held in the Met's permanent collection since 1951.
This is a period-printed poster from the original 1986 Australian tour, in excellent condition, flat with no fold lines, foxing or fading.
Framed in a black steel frame with gallery glass, 54cm wide by 88cm high.
