Description
The Galvanitas S22, also produced under the Thur-Op-Seat name, is known for its distinctive compass leg profile, a piece of Dutch industrial design dating to 1967.
The frame is built from folded sheet steel rather than tubular steel, giving it real strength from a small amount of material and the kind of architectural line associated with Jean Prouvé's furniture from the same period. The seat shell is Pagholz, a West German technique where wood veneers are pressed under resin at high pressure, producing a surface that keeps the look of timber grain while resisting scratches and impact in a way solid wood cannot.
This example has the black steel frame with a mahogany-toned shell, the Thur-Op-Seat logo embossed on the seat back.
Excellent vintage condition. The Pagholz shell shows no chips or cracks, and the steel frame is structurally sound with minor age-appropriate patina.
Dimensions: 46cm wide, 50cm deep, 80cm high, seat height 45cm.
