Set of 4 MCM Dining Chairs by Alron – Rare Olive Vinyl & Restored Blackwood
An investment-grade set of four mid-century modern dining chairs by the boutique South Australian maker, Alron Furniture Pty Ltd.
While mass-produced pieces from the 1960s are common, finding a matched set in this time-capsule condition is exceptionally rare. These chairs retain their original, pristine olive green upholstery — a testament to their sheltered life and high-quality manufacturing — paired with frames that have been professionally restored to better-than-new condition by Fox & Wedge Vintage.
Alron Furniture was a distinguished member of the S.A. Guild of Furniture Manufacturers and a contemporary of T.H. Brown and Noblett. Their work is celebrated for its structural integrity and distinct "floating seat" architecture. Unlike the high-volume output of Sydney makers, Alron pieces offer a unique, sculptural profile that is an increasingly rare find within the Australian Modernism movement.
The timber frames are crafted from solid Tasmanian Blackwood and have been restored with a premium Hardwax Oil. This safe and VOC-free finish penetrates the timber, nourishing the grain from within. The result is a natural, satin-matte finish that is incredibly tactile, water-resistant, and easy to maintain.
The frames are tight, solid, and structurally flawless. The original vinyl is remarkable with only minor patina consistent with age; it remains supple, vibrant, and free from cracks or rips. The geometric button-tufting remains crisp, and the chairs offer excellent comfort and support, resting on a solid timber sub-frame.
This is a rare opportunity to own a set that looks better than it did on the showroom floor in the late 1960s.
