Shin Azumi for Fredericia 'Nara' Chair in Black Oak

$495.00 AUD
Description

Shin Azumi designed the Nara chair for Fredericia in 2010, and it is named after Nara, the Japanese city known for its free roaming, sacred deer. The backrest forks into two upward horns, and this example is in black stained oak.

Azumi wanted to express the sculptural beauty of solid timber and create a comfortable chair from a simple wooden structure. He defined the top edge and vertical supports of the backrest first, for the best support, and removed all superfluous material from the rest. The horns provide a place to hang a jacket or bag.

The black stain gives the chair a strong, graphic silhouette, and the solid timber seat has no upholstery to wear. Set against a pale wall or beside a light timber table, the outline reads clearly from across the room.

Fredericia is a Danish design house, and the Nara series sits within the Scandinavian tradition of sculptural timber furniture while adding a language of its own. The series also includes a coat stand made from the offcuts of chair production, which shows the same thinking: use good timber well and waste as little as possible.

Ex showroom condition, excellent. One chair is available.

Dimensions: 47 cm W x 50.5 cm D x 82.5 cm H, seat height 44 cm.

We also have the Nara bar stool in oak, which pairs with this chair for a kitchen with both counter and table seating. Wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth.
