VAD Trevarefabrikk Stamped Copper Round Dining Table, c. 1970

$1,490.00 AUD
Description

Egyptian figures in profile, a chariot scene at the centre and bands of basket weave texture cover the top of this round dining table, all stamped into copper.

It was made by VAD Trevarefabrikk, a Scandinavian maker known for stamped copper tables in the Egyptian revival style, around 1970. Most stamped copper tables from this maker that come to market are coffee tables, so a dining table is a less common find.

The copper top is framed by a rim of warm timber and rests on a copper finished tulip pedestal, a form that leaves the space beneath the table clear for chairs and legs.

The relief is worked in several bands. At the centre sits a circular medallion with the chariot scene, surrounded by a band of textured basket weave, and an outer frieze of figures runs around the edge.

The copper has darkened naturally, with deeper tones settling into the recesses of the relief. This patina gives the pattern its depth and is part of the table's character.

Copper is a warm, reflective surface, so the table suits a room with plenty of natural timber, dark leather or plain white walls. A pale or dark chair works equally well, and a low pendant or floor lamp adds a glow across the metal.

To care for the top, wipe it with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry it straight away. Avoid abrasive cleaners and metal polish, which would strip the patina, and use placemats under hot dishes.

Condition reflects its age, with the patina described above. Sold as the table only, without the chairs shown in the photos.
