Description

Run a hand across a leather seat that has been conditioned and one that has not, and the difference is obvious. One feels supple and smooth. The other feels dry and slightly stiff, with fine creases starting where people sit.

Made in Denmark by Guardian, Leather Conditioner nourishes and moisturises aniline, semi aniline and pigmented smooth leather, helping the hide keep its natural character and lowering the risk of drying, scratching and fading.

Why use it

Sun, heating and years of use draw the natural oils out of leather. Once it dries, the surface stiffens, creases and loses colour, usually first at the arms, seat edges and headrests. A regular coat of conditioner helps the leather stay supple between cleans.

What it is for

Smooth leather on lounge chairs, sofas and dining chairs: aniline, semi aniline and pigmented leather. It is not made for suede or nubuck. If the leather is dirty, clean it first with Guardian Leather Cleaner, which comes in the Leather Care Kit.

Before you start

Some colours can look slightly deeper or darker after treatment, especially aniline leather, which has little or no protective coating. Test on a hidden area first and let it dry fully before treating the whole piece.

How to use it

  1. Shake the bottle well.
  2. Test on a hidden spot, such as the back of a seat or under an arm.
  3. If the leather is dirty, clean it first and let it dry completely.
  4. Apply with a soft, lint free cloth or sponge, in light circular strokes.
  5. Spread it evenly over whole panels rather than patches.

To buff off any excess, we use our bamboo polishing cloths.

How often

Guardian recommends four to six treatments a year for leather furniture in regular use.

Why we stock Guardian

Guardian makes its furniture care in Vejen, in southern Denmark. We stock it for the aniline and semi aniline leather on the Danish chairs and lounges that come through our Torquay studio. Our introduction to Guardian explains more.
